Recently relocated to a new location on Presidential Drive, Bella Afrik is not your typical Italian joint. Yes, you’ll find pasta and antipasto on the menu, but dishes are strongly influenced by South American cuisine, adding a real kick to proceedings.

Housed in the sleek, glass-fronted building that was formerly home to Burger & Relish, Bôndai – part of an independent, family-run group of restaurants – is a welcome addition to the city’s dining scene.

Conveniently situated close to the centre of Osu, Buka is, without question, one of the best lunch spots in the city – as evidenced by the fact that there’s rarely an empty seat in the house.

Au Grand Ecuyer is a lovely little place – we’re regulars.

This excellent Indian restaurant was set up by the guy behind Get Stuffed Deli (see above) in 1996. It’s since passed into the hands of his son, who continues the quality of great, traditional Indian cuisine.

With its aim being to revive the elegant ritual of a traditional high tea, the Savannah Tea Garden is a beautifully manicured garden in the heart of Accra that makes a dreamy setting for a birthday party, anniversary celebration or corporate event with a difference.

Le Must has been a force among Accra’s upscale eateries for two decades, with past diners including Jacques Chirac, Will Smith and Stevie Wonder.

More of a street stall than a restaurant, Katawodieso is semi-legendary in Accra, having been at this location for a quarter of a century.

Now here’s an international proposition. Gold Coast Restaurant & Cocktail Bar started in London in 2004, but the most recent phase of its journey has seen it opening here, in Accra’s Airport Residential area. It serves a welcome mix of Ghanaian classics and seafood dishes amid a convivial atmosphere.

The deeply appealing Cupcake Boutique in Labone is reminiscent of the popular American cupcake bakery Sprinkles.

This lovely little Labone outlet has good coffee, pastries and lunchtime sandwiches. The baked goods have always been of a decent quality and freshly made, while time has also been spent on training the staff to make a good coffee.

Stepping inside Milkbox and checking out its sleek decor and tantalising patisserie counter for the first time, you wouldn’t be blamed for thinking you’d walked into a high-end Paris bakery.
