Housed in the sleek, glass-fronted building that was formerly home to Burger & Relish, Bôndai – part of an independent, family-run group of restaurants – is a welcome addition to the city’s dining scene. Indoor and outdoor seating areas feature marble, mirrors and contemporary rattan seating decked out in shades of grey, with pops of colour coming in the form of zingy orange and tropical-print cushions. The food offering fuses Mediterranean and Japanese flavours, including a dedicated sushi menu, while the award-winning cocktail list begs to be explored. With a long table that seats up to 18, this is a good option for larger parties, but is equally suited to an elegant dinner à deux. They have also revamped the Bôndai Secret Garden next to the restaurant and have been using it for art shows, jazz concerts and private dinners.
