Makola Market
Sprawling market – one of the biggest in Ghana.
Buffering Ussher Town and the city centre, Makola Market is one of Accra’s most pulsating street-level experiences. Almost anything you could hope to buy can be found within this sprawling maze of passageways, roads, buildings and paths. There’s a souk-like atmosphere as you weave through the network of stalls, where vendors, mostly women, sell an impossibly large array of produce, clothes and home supplies. Surprisingly, you’re unlikely to be hassled much, this being a marketplace predominantly for the city’s residents. Not all tourists visit the area, but we’d certainly advise spending some time soaking up its sights and scents.
