ArchiAfrika Design + Architecture Gallery

Thriving design-led space.

This thriving design-led space is at the vanguard of Jamestown’s rejuvenation, having evolved into a beloved community hub since its 2001 conception. Its founders, a group of architects led by Nat Nuno Amarteifio and Joe Osaw Addo, want nothing less than to redefine West Africa’s urban landscape. Specifically, their mission is to show how Africa’s cities and towns can be revitalised through a more integrated approach, ending a tradition of bulldozing and rebuilding through tapping into existing local resources. In taking old building stock and reorganising it into a contemporary creative space, they have helped to position historic Jamestown as one of Ghana’s key cultural, tourist and creative hubs. Browse exhibitions of paintings, product design, fashion, technology, photography and architecture in the gallery, then cross the road to Jamestown Café. A social hangout loved by locals and visitors alike, it often welcomes local musicians, artists and schoolchildren. The icing on the cake? A killer cocktail list and a soundtrack to match. ArchiAfrika is also behind a musical festival held at the 1600-built Franklin Lodge in Ussher Town.
