National Theatre

Home to Ghana’s national dance and drama companies.

Home to Ghana’s national dance and drama companies and orchestra, this architecturally dazzling cultural institution opened in 1992. A recent, August 2021, production, ‘Ayiyii’, used the traditional African story of Ananse and the pot of wisdom as a metaphor to highlight the richness of Ghanaian culture and values – a theme that informs much of the venue’s output. The auditorium is also used for concerts, exhibitions and events, including 2015’s TED Africa. The National Symphony Orchestra puts on regular Sunday concerts. Check the website for details of upcoming performances.
