We challenge anyone to put on Studio 189’s red-and-white ‘Mini Jazzy Jeff’ tiered cotton maxi skirt and not feel on top of the world. It is just one among countless covetable pieces from the groundbreaking Accra-based label, which works with artisanal communities that specialise in traditional craftsmanship techniques such as natural plant-based indigo dye, hand-batik, kente weaving and more. Co-founders Rosario Dawson and Abrima Erwiah set out with an aim to challenge the way in which the industry works, proving that luxury fashion can be both stylish and ethically made. On stepping inside their rainbow-hued store, it is instantly obvious that they’re succeeding.
