The five-star Kempinski has been designed with its guests total peace and relaxation in mind, and manages to be incredibly well hidden away, despite its central location. This is all the more remarkable when you consider that this is the biggest hotel in the country, spreading over 35 hectares and playing home to 269 rooms, plus four suites, all of which are at least 50sq m in size. Pop into the Gallery Bar for a signature cocktail, or to Gallery 1957, a light-filled space showcasing Ghanaian artists, before dinner at Papillon Restaurant, which offers a superb buffet as well as an à la carte menu. Upstairs are the spacious rooms, the best of their kind in Accra, with African art and design flourishes at every turn. Many overlook the beautiful infinity pool and Cedar Terrace area, a wonderful place to relax for a day. The spa has ten treatment rooms, a hammam, yoga studios and beauty salon, while the vast conference and ballroom facilities sport all the latest AV equipment, as do the boardrooms and smaller meeting spaces. The Kempinski has always had huge ambitions to become more than a hotel, preferring to see itself as a high-end social centre for Accra. To this end, a new five-storey building directly opposite the hotel is currently in development, which will offer 7,000sq m of shops, restaurants and bars, as well as a multi-storey car park.
