Not only is this Holiday Inn outpost close to the airport, it’s within easy reach of local attractions including Independence Square, the Kwame Nkrumah Museum and Accra’s 400km of white-sand beaches – the guest relations team will be happy to help you plan excursions. The airy lobby benefits from the addition of some modern African wood sculptures, and is a good spot to indulge in a spot of people-watching, but, for our money, it’s the air-conditioned gym and Med-style pool that are the main draw. Rooms are basic but clean, and the exceptionally friendly service tends to compensate for the decor not being bang-up-to-date. There’s a wide food offering, with the Ghanaian-international breakfast spread being a highlight, along with the poolside bar, which attracts a big crowd on Friday evenings at sunset). The Wiase Restaurant is renowned locally for its Sunday buffet, which is a great way to sample a wide range of Ghanaian flavours. Book well in advance for the best room rates.
