The Loom

Frances Ademola’s popular gallery The Loom – founded in 1969.

Frances Ademola’s popular gallery The Loom – founded in 1969 as a small art shop in an allegedly haunted house on Kwame Nkrumah Circle – exhibits paintings and sculptures by a good selection of Ghana’s foremost artists, with a handful of expressive Nigerian pieces added to the mix. If Ademola is around, she’s delightful company, chatting exuberantly about artists such as Seth and Serge Clottey and Gabriel Eklou, and happily offering her great knowledge of the Ghanaian art scene, past and present. With many of the works priced very reasonably, a visit here offers a great opportunity to take home a piece of original African art.
